Is PandaScribe Worth It? Pricing and Who It Is For (2026)

    TL;DR

PandaScribe costs $39 once, $79 once for three devices, or $5 a month, after 10 free transcriptions. Here is what you get, how it compares on price, and where it falls short.

PandaScribe costs $39 once for one computer, $79 once for three, or $5 a month. Every plan includes unlimited dictation, and you get 10 free transcriptions before you pay anything. It is worth it if you write by voice most days and want your audio to stay on your own computer. It is not the right tool if you need meeting notes or file transcription.

Lifetime Multi-Device$79 onceUp to 3A desktop and a laptop, or Mac and Windows
iPhone and iPad$9.99 once, in the App StoreYour Apple devicesDictating on your iPhone or iPad

Every plan includes the same features and unlimited transcriptions. The lifetime plans include future updates with no yearly fee. There is no account to create: you download the app, try it, and enter a licence key if you decide to buy.

On your phone: any PandaScribe licence also unlocks the Android app, and doing so does not use up one of the licence's devices. On iPhone and iPad, PandaScribe is a separate $9.99 one-time purchase in the App Store. Both phone apps include 10 free transcriptions too.

The monthly plan pays for itself as a lifetime licence after about eight months, so if you expect to keep dictating past that, the $39 plan is the better deal.

What you get for the price

PandaScribe is a dictation app. You hold a key (Control by default), speak, and let go. Clean, punctuated text appears wherever your cursor is, in any app.

    • Speech recognition on your computer. Audio is never uploaded. After a one-time model download it works with no internet connection.
    • Cleanup on your computer too. Filler words and stutters disappear, punctuation and capitals are fixed, numbers become digits, and when you change your mind mid-sentence ("let's meet Tuesday, no, Wednesday") only the correction is kept.
    • Optional on-device AI. On Apple Silicon Macs, Rewrite for clarity turns rambling dictation into clear sentences with a larger model that also runs on your computer. It is off by default, because it can reword what you said.
    • Spoken formatting. Say "new line" or "bullet point" and it lays the text out for you.
    • Custom words and snippets. Teach it names and jargon, and say a short phrase to type a longer saved block of text.
    • Voice instructions. Say "Panda" plus an instruction, such as "Panda, reply to this email saying yes", and it drafts the text using your clipboard as context.
    • Your choice of speech model. Parakeet Small (an 86 MB download) to start in seconds, Parakeet Unified for the best English accuracy with live text, or Whisper for the widest language coverage.
    • Mac (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows, iPhone and Android. On phones, PandaScribe is a voice keyboard you use in any app, from the App Store and Google Play.

    How the price compares

Prices below are from each company's pricing page, in US dollars, on 17 October 2026.

AppHow you payFirst-year costRuns on your device?
    PandaScribe$39 once$39Yes, always
    VoiceInk$25 once (1 Mac)$25Yes (Apple Silicon only)
Superwhisper$84.99 a year, or $249.99 lifetime$84.99Local models on Apple Silicon, plus cloud
Voibe$99 a year, or $199 lifetime$99Apple Silicon only; cloud on Intel and Windows
    Wispr Flow$12 a month billed yearly$144No, cloud
    Typeless$12 a month billed yearly$144No, cloud

Two things stand out. First, among the apps that keep your voice on your device, only VoiceInk is cheaper, and it runs only on Apple Silicon Macs. Second, the cloud apps cost more each year than PandaScribe costs once. They are also more polished in some areas (see below), so price is not the whole story.

    Where PandaScribe falls short

Being honest about this saves you a refund request:

    • No meeting notes, file transcription or speaker labels. PandaScribe is for live dictation. For recordings and meetings, MacWhisper or Otter.ai fit better.
    • No Linux app. Typeless and Voicy run on Linux too. On Android, PandaScribe uses your phone's speech recognition, on the device where the phone supports it, rather than its own models.
    • Heavy rewriting is Apple Silicon only. Rewrite for clarity needs an Apple Silicon Mac and a 2.6 GB download. On Windows and Intel Macs, PandaScribe tidies what you said but does not restructure it.
    • A one-time download. The English speech model is 86 MB (other languages take a few hundred MB), so the first setup needs a connection.
    • One device per licence. The $39 plan covers one computer at a time; for two or three machines, the $79 plan is cheaper than two licences.

Is it worth it for you?

    Probably yes if you:

    • Write emails, messages, documents, notes or AI prompts by voice most days.
    • Work with anything confidential (clients, patients, unreleased code) and want audio to stay on your machine.
    • Use an Intel Mac or a Windows PC and want fully offline dictation, which several competitors don't offer there.
    • Would rather pay once than add another subscription.

    Probably not if you:

    • Mainly transcribe meetings, interviews or audio files.
    • Need dictation on Linux.
    • Want heavy AI rewriting on Windows or an Intel Mac.
    • Only dictate a sentence or two now and then. The free dictation built into macOS and Windows may be enough.

    How we check quality

Before every desktop release we run the cleanup against a fixed set of 118 dictation samples, including 23 long, rambling real dictations, each checked for what must change (fillers, stutters, self-corrections) and what must not (names, numbers, negatives, sentences that were already clean). We compare each release with the last one and fix anything that gets worse before it ships. That is why the everyday cleanup is careful rather than creative: it keeps your meaning and your words.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is PandaScribe free?

You get 10 free transcriptions with every feature unlocked, and no account is needed. After that it is $39 once, $79 once for three devices, or $5 a month.

    Is there a subscription?

Only if you want one. The $5 monthly plan exists for people who prefer not to pay upfront. The lifetime plans are one payment with updates included.

    Does it work offline?

Yes. After the one-time model download, speech recognition and cleanup both run on your computer with no internet connection.

Do I need to pay again for my phone?

On Android, no: your licence unlocks the Android app as well, without using one of its devices. On iPhone and iPad, the app is a $9.99 one-time purchase in the App Store, because Apple requires in-app purchases there.

Can I use one licence on Mac and Windows?

A single-device licence works on one computer at a time. The $79 Multi-Device plan covers up to three, on any mix of Mac and Windows.

    What about refunds?

Refund requests are handled case by case. Contact support if PandaScribe isn't working for you. You can also use the 10 free transcriptions to decide before you buy.

How does it compare with free dictation in macOS and Windows?

The built-in tools are fine for short notes. PandaScribe adds cleanup (fillers, self-corrections, punctuation), spoken formatting, custom words and snippets, and it works the same way in every app. See PandaScribe vs Apple Dictation.

    The bottom line

If you write by voice regularly and care where your audio goes, $39 once is hard to beat: it is less than four months of most cloud dictation apps, and it keeps working without an internet connection. If you need meetings, files or Linux, one of the alternatives above will serve you better. Either way, the 10 free transcriptions are enough to find out on your own writing.
